Building new practices – a spirit house

I’m one of those who is willing to offer hospitality to strange spirits. This is perhaps not always a wise move on my own part, but I also believe it’s part of building a community.

The Road, the Walker, and What Comes Next

It’s been pretty quiet around here, hasn’t it? Since the final push to get the hand bound copies of Worshiping Loki out the door I’ve pulled back in order to focus on job-writing and other work. The effort left me pretty wiped out as you might imagine and I’ve still got the logistics of printing standard copies to think about. The person who I had originally planned to partner with on this effort had to pull back for job-related reasons, which I totally understand. He’s a freelance designer and though I would have been paying him, he had other clients come up in the meantime that had to become a priority. He’s provided me with some references but so far nothing has panned out. I’ve also put myself to studying formatting for bound material printing just in case I have to do this all myself – which I really, really…

Moon and Stars

One night I left my lonely bed
and walked along the rivers’ edge
I saw a lady standing there,
the moonlight in her raven hair.

She wore a crescent as her crown
and starlight spun into her gown.
I saw the lady standing there,
the moonlight in her raven hair.

Stars strung as jewels and shining bright,
As there she stood in silver light.
I saw My Lady standing there,
the moonlight in her raven hair.

Who are you?

Who are you, really? Ask yourself that question, and answer it honestly. Chances are, that’s actually pretty hard to do, because the answers come from external sources. Ultimately, the self – the ego – is an external construct, as much as we have internalized it. No matter how personal the labels we give ourselves, they remain labels and labels are not the truth. The name is not the thing itself.

Silent Love

I want to sing a song for you, but the song just will not come.
So many things to say to you, but these many words won’t do.
I sit here in silent love for you, this sweetest song of all.
No words can say and no song can tell the things I feel for you
So here I sit, sweet Sarasiddhi, I sit in silent love.

Couplets

Namo Saraswati Devi, you from whom all knowledge comes
I bow to you a hundred times; I take refuge in your love

Namo Saraswati Devi, you from whom all learning comes
I bow to you a thousand times; I take refuge in your love

Namo Saraswati Devi, you from whom all wisdom comes
I bow to you a million times; I take refuge in your love

Namo Saraswati Devi, you from whom all good things come
I bow to you and you alone; I take refuge in your love.

Mini-Ranticle

Please stop using the phrase “The Old Gods.” Just stop it. It just sounds silly. Because Yahweh, that god you’re trashing by implication? He’s been around for a loooooooong time.

Yeah. He’s an old god. So seriously. Quit.

A Couple of Things

It’s OK to have different UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis) from someone else, even if that person is influential in the community, because even when UPG makes the leap to SPG (Shared Personal Gnosis), it’s still personal.

It’s OK if your beliefs don’t match up perfectly with those of someone you like. You can still like them, and – *gasp!* be interested in what they believe – while still maintaining the integrity of your own beliefs.
